The play by Lasica and Satinský, Our Friend René, was supposed to be premiered in 1980, but a day before the premiere, communist censors banned the performance. It was not staged until 1986. The authors ironically, sarcastically, and with sharp humor address themes of human limitations and unfreedom while drawing from the first Slovak novel, The Adventures and Experiences of Young René by Jozef Ignác Bajza from the 18th century, which criticized the society of the time and was also banned for a time. The production by the Spiš Theatre, in the spirit of the season motto 2025/2026, Good Old Times, brings a new perspective on the timeless literary phenomenon that has affected several generations.
Performance with intermission.
