Orphans
Orphans
The director Mariana Luteránová has prepared a new production for the Spiš Theatre – Orphans, following the acclaimed Whisperers. This original project by Lenka Garajová is inspired by the challenging fates of children in Slovak literary classics. It raises questions about their position in the past and in contemporary society. Abandoned child characters from various literary works meet in a Slovak village, both idyllic and cruel, ageless and eternal. Some lack a parent, some food or a warm home, while others yearn for love. Children face indifference from their surroundings or punishment in their own way. They escape from existential crises into a world of fantasy, dreaming of a better future and mutual closeness. Is that enough to alleviate child suffering?
