The vernissage of the photography exhibition by Imrich Svitana – Theater Poprad under construction will take place in June 2026 at the Art Club of the Tatra Gallery in Poprad at 5:00 PM.

Imrich Svitana (1944), an author who originally wanted to become a painter, gradually developed as a carver, sculptor, medallist, jeweler, and stone carver. In his work, he draws primarily from nature, life, and years of experience, striving to uncover hidden stories and secrets of materials, especially stone. A significant part of his artistic life was also the documentation of architecture and cultural projects, including the building of the Theater Poprad.

The exhibition of Imrich Svitana at the Art Club of the Tatra Gallery in Poprad presents an authentic view of the creation of an important cultural building through several dozen photographs and captures the individual stages of its construction from the first building works to its final form. The building in the Poprad district of Veľká served for many years as the cinema Máj. The object underwent extensive architectural restoration and today serves as the headquarters of the Theater Poprad, a modern professional theater with a large and small stage, a summer stage, a café, and spaces for cultural and social events.

For Imrich Svitana, this transformation also had a personal dimension. Living and creating in close proximity to the object, he had a unique opportunity to closely observe the entire construction process and document the magnificent architectural transformation of the former cinema into a new center of cultural life. His photographs capture not only the individual construction stages but also the birth of a new cultural space that today enriches the life of the city of Poprad.

The exhibition will last until August 30, 2026.
