The play 'Our Friend René' by Lasica and Satinský was supposed to premiere on November 8, 1980, but the communist censors banned the performance a day before. It finally had its first stage presentation in 1986. The author duo processes themes of human limitations and unfreedom with irony, sarcasm, and sharp humor, drawing from the first Slovak novel, 'The Adventures and Experiences of Young René' by Jozef Ignác Bajza from the 18th century, which criticized the society of its time and was also banned for a while. The Spiš Theatre production in the spirit of the season motto 2025/2026 'The Good Old Times' brings a new perspective on this timeless literary phenomenon that has impacted several generations.
