J. Hollý: KUBO
J. Hollý: KUBO
“Because what you do for Kubo, you do for yourself!” A legendary comedy in the Spiš dialect and a bit differently.
The character of Kubo has entertained generations of viewers, yet Jozef Hollý's comedy still offers new possibilities for interpretation. The creators have set Kubo in the Spiš theater against the backdrop of the season's motto 2025/2026, 'Good Old Times?', at the beginning of the 90s in a partially dilapidated slaughterhouse. The production, directed by Martin Bašista, is full of situational humor stemming from both the era and the environment. The individual characters are willing to do anything to reap the greatest personal benefit and earn as much money as possible, thus finding themselves in many comical situations. The work also employs the metaphor of a person as a 'piece of meat,' relating to family relationships and arranged marriages, and to the community’s relationships with the individual, thus raising the question of who Kubo really is.
