L. Garajová: ORPHANS

A staging inspired by the fates of children abandoned in Slovak literature.

Director Mariana Luteránová has prepared a new staging – Orphans – for the Spiš Theatre after the acclaimed Whispers. The authorial project by Lenka Garajová is inspired by the difficult fates of children in Slovak literary classics. It raises questions about their status in the past as well as in contemporary society. Abandoned child characters from various literary works meet in a Slovak village, idyllic yet cruel, ageless, eternal. Some miss a parent, some lack food or a warm home, while others long for love. Children face the indifference of those around them or physical punishments in their own way. They escape from existential crises into the world of fantasy, dreaming of a better future and mutual closeness. Is that enough to alleviate children's suffering?
