Open Day - Free Spasticity Assessment

Open Day - Free Spasticity Assessment

One of the most common consequences of a stroke is spasticity – stiffness of the limbs, with which many patients live even long after experiencing a stroke. OZ Life After Stroke is organizing for the third time from June 15 to 22, 2026 an Open Day in clinics for the treatment of spasticity. The aim is to raise awareness of rehabilitation and treatment options, expedite diagnosis, and support patients' return to independence and a better quality of life after experiencing a stroke.

Cerebral stroke (CMS) is among the most common causes of long-term disability, affecting thousands of people in Slovakia every year. Many patients encounter consequences that significantly affect their daily lives after experiencing it. One frequent problem is spasticity – muscle stiffness of the limbs that limits the movement and independence of the patient. According to professional studies, spasticity occurs in approximately 30-40% of patients after a stroke, which is a condition that significantly worsens mobility, self-sufficiency, and overall quality of life. Nevertheless, it often remains diagnosed too late or insufficiently treated, even though early rehabilitation and targeted treatment can significantly alleviate its symptoms.

OPEN DAY, June 15 – 22, 2026

OZ Life After Stroke, in cooperation with rehabilitation doctors and neurologists from 12 hospitals across Slovakia, organized an Open Day during which patients in their city can undergo a free assessment without a referral letter directly with a specialist. The assessment is intended only for patients who have experienced a cerebral stroke and focuses on specific consequences – stiffness of the upper or lower limb. This condition can be improved or cured in most cases. A hand or leg in spasm after a stroke is often mistakenly considered irreversible, but in many cases, exercises can help – the sooner the patient starts, the better. Where rehabilitation is not effective, treatment with botulinum toxin may be indicated.
